The Dane Cook Effect
November 8, 2006 · Print This Article
Welcome to the pilot episode of Behind The Brick, where we strip down stand-up until it just isn’t funny.
Let’s start out by getting to know our host, professional comedian Brian Mollica. From his humble beginnings in Tucson, AZ, to his humble years working the clubs of Manhattan, and his now humblest life on the road.
Brian tracks comedy from the boom of the 1980’s, to the lull of the 1990’s, and the recent resurgence. He also gives his opinion of Dane Cook, stand-up’s biggest star. Is he a comedic genius or a joke stealing retard?

I guess if Brian and my opinions synced any closer I would have to marry him, and same sex marriage is illegal in both Florida and Nevada. So, it’s great that our opinions of Dane Cook are opposite. Where I think that Dane started his career strong and has gradually slipped, Brian thinks that he started out sucking, became good, then went back to sucking. That’s like saying I love (pick your band)’s middle stuff, but I hate their early stuff, and I don’t much care much for their new stuff either. At least we can agree that at one point, we both appreciated his comedy. Great show, Brian, I love to hear you rant.

I want to hear you go off on those Italian restaurants we were talking about not too long ago. I was at Romano’s Macaroni Grille last weekend and thought about our ranting on it. Besides, who the fuck grills macaroni anyways?
I prefer to think of it as liking Star Trek The Next Generation more than the original or Depp Space Nine. Oh dear God, I’m the biggest losere alive!
PLEASE COME BACK TO MSR!!!!!!!! btw, I love your show. You are more free to say what you want. Your not being held back, your not cencored. And it brings out the best in you, not that the best wasnt already out in you at MSR. Talk to you later man.
BOOO!!!! good show man
If this podcast doesn’t say that Dane Cook is the greatest comedian in the history of America and mankind….you’re dead to me BMO.
Trader!! why’d you leave MSR. BMO selling out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What’s a Trader? And how and what is he selling out from?
He obviously means I use the barter system. Thanks for the feedback and support everyone.
It’s good to hear your voice on my computer again! Best of luck to you and I look forward to increasing my comedy knowledge by listening to you each week! I will miss your high stakes poker stories though!
BMO, nice show. As Carrie said, good to hear your voice coming out my computer again. By the way, I’m betting that msrfan is Kempfer in disguise! Just sayin….
Hey Brian, I really like the new podcast. I want to hear your thoughts on Martin Lawrence. I thought Runteldat was hilarious but I just watched You So Crazy the other night and I thought he was too all over the map, he never worked on one joke enough to make it really funny in my opinion, and while I think profanity can be used to great comic effect it gets distracting when every third word is an F or N bomb. What do you think? Did he really get better with time or did he just have better stories about crazy shit he did for Runteldat?
The shitting on the coats bit is actually fairly clever and funny, but Cook is so irritating in his joke telling. I just hate his delivery and the way he continues to use a bunch of “big” words to say the same thing a million times over and over. The concept of shitting on the coats is funny, but he mentions that once and then goes into his “someone shit in the coat AREA” “someone shit in the VISCINITY of the coats”. I don’t think that part is funny at all. How would you decide who’s coat you were going to shit on? That’s a tough decision and would you try and crank the turd across a couple of coats? I would. Also, it’s pretty tough to fire out a duece without taking a piss too. The guy doesn’t mention this at all. I think he started with a brilliant idea for a bit and totally let it flop.
nice to have you back bmo
Brian,
Being from good old London town, I never had a fcuking clue who Dane Cook was, I googled the guy and he looks like you with spikey hair!!!!!
Its your twin Bro!
Keep your pecker up.
I’m with you Badshot, I had no idea who he was until I saw the Employee of the Month trailer. Ugh, how bad does that movie look?
Interesting take Badshot. I’d like to believe we look alike, but he has to physically stop women from having sex with him during his show, and I have to keep them from getting up and walking out during mine.
I am Zoidberg!
Glad to hear you again Brian, and glad to hear that the legendary Assquatch lives on! Good luck buddy. I’ve found a couple of new podcasts.
