Sittin’ N’ Pissin’

Dennis Langaniere is here and he’s bringing some LA, shitting in a hole, 3 day unwashed flavor.

Topics include the open mic death march, Brian’s misconceptions (sort of) of the LA comedy scene, apologizing for other people’s obesity, and an extra nerdy comedy spotlight.  I don’t care what you say, I do a sweet Richard Jeni impression.

What a delight meeting Dennis! I will definitely check your room(s) out the next time I’m in LA.

Dennis, I think the reason you get it right as a host on stage is the same reason you end up with too many comics: you actually like them. So many hosts seem to either not care about the comics or the crowd. You demonstrate such a refreshing lack of hostility, it surprises me that you’ve been on reality TV.

Brian, your self-esteem seems really low this week. Are you getting your period? It was a good show, and you didn’t sound fat at all, I promise.

Really liked the Dennis interview. Only one gripe – no Hell Gig story!

I can give you a hell gig story… Last Wednesday (the day Brian’s interview came out) the owner of Smiles pulled me aside after the show to say he thinks he can make more money having a DJ instead of comedy. He hadn’t heard the interview, so Brian’s not to blame directly, but apparently he cursed me… :-)

Anyway, I’ve got a couple of hosting gigs in the next few months and I’m going to start looking around for a new permanent room… I’ve had a lot of comics email to say how sad they are to see a good room go away, but what are you gonna do… six months was actually a pretty good run… :-)

I’ll pass the word when I find a new home for the show.

    Anyway, rock on all…

Thanks to Dennis for introducing me to Behind the Bricks podcasts. What a fun interview!

So sorry to hear about Smiles. Dennis’ sad story makes me grateful for The Joke Gym’s great venue.
