Remembering John Belushi

January 24, 2007 · Print This Article

Time to call the babysitter because Brian’s rambling again.

On today’s installment of Behind The Bricks Brian welcomes in guest Dylan Gadino of Punchline Magazine.  Dylan talks about the state of stand up and which comics to keep an eye out for in ‘07.

A glance at the calendar reminded our host that it’s John Belushi’s birthday, so Brian takaes some time to recognize and remember a handful of comics who were taken too soon.

As though that weren’t enough show, we also have a 2 part phoned in joke of the week, complete with advice on how to deliver a joke when you can’t wait to get to the punchline, a rant of the week so creepy it could have gotten Brian incarcerated, and a spotlight on one of the most original young comics the stand up world has seen in years.

Plow……you really didnt mess that joke up! Even messing up (or knowing how to play off your mistakes) can be incorporated. When you messed up I felt like you were comfortable with the joke. Even though thats backwards. Exactly Bmo…oh Im listening as I type.

Sometimes, when I make a mistake and slip up with my words on stage, I make mention of it. I think if the audience sees you recognizing that you screwed up, and they see that it doesn’t phase you, they’ll let it go.

Also, I’d like to add that my birthday is June 6th. Which happens to be D-Day–the start of the 1944 Liberation of Europe from the Nazis. I dunno if that’s good or bad.

    Peace out.

I do think John Belushi was funny, but I find the original cast of SNL is sooooo overrated. Critics think that everything that came after them is crap, and a lot of it was, but a lot of the original SNL stuff was too. It’s like no one in that cast can do any wrong (except for the occasional drug overdose of course).

I’m loving the UPC. Last one I saw some donkey hit a 2 outer on the river for Kings full to beat another guy’s trips 8’s. I loved when he was going all in when there was 1500 in the pot preflop. Real smart.

Demetri is a one of my favorite guys working today. I’ve seen him several times and he’s a beast. He has a new comedy special that just recently premiered on comedy central called, “person”. He presented a bar graph that was titled something like “how funny I find farts by location”. It was the funniest thing I’ve seen in 2007 and the greatest bar graph of all time.

Nice call on the original SNL cast Darcy. I’ve said several times that I’d put the Carvey, Hartman, Farley, Sandler, Spade, etc. at the top of the pile. Some people have gotten so pissed it’s almost come to blows. Granted booze was involved.

I saw Demetri’s new special and it was gut busting funny. He just took home the award for 2006 club comic of the year. Probably the only one he’ll ever get as he’ll be packing out theaters by the end of the year.

News travels slow here in Canada.

Could it be the sound of BMO’s voice coming through the speakers again.

OK so I just found you guys, I’ve only listen to 1 full podcast, so I have a lot of catching up to do.

    Will check back later

I’m glad you finally found me TRB. I’m sorry I couldn’t leave a forwarding address. Take your time catching up with the shows. I’m working for myself now, so I plan on sticking around.
