Kramer - The Wacky, Racist Neighbor!

November 22, 2006 · Print This Article

Today’s Behind The Bricks is all about decency (or lack there of). Brian talks about clean vs. dirty comics. Is there a stigma in the stand-up community toward comics who work clean?

And of course how could we forget everyone’s favorite racist douche bag, Michael Richards! Brian analyzes the has been’s tirade and answers the question, is it ever ok to go there.

He wraps it up with nicotine fueled rant of the week and spot lights another rock star comic who owes his career to The King Of All Media.

To all BTB listeners and BMO,

I have a small story I would like to share.

The other night my wife, daughter (6) and I were at a local Chinese restaurant. When the meal was over, as you do, we got the check and fortune cookies. My wife opened her cookie and read it, “You are attached to family and home”, I opened mine and it said something like, “You are the life of the party”, then my daughter opened hers. I tried to get it and read it for her, but she insisted on reading it herself. She read, “You are sad and ignorant”. not only did me and the wife snicker, many tables around us were laughing. I got the slip of paper and it actually read, “you are studious and energetic”

You gotta love that! I still laugh thinking about it.

One day i will share the story of how I got stitches where you don’t want stiches. Yeah there.

I love it. I actually have a friend who once got a bad fortune. He opened his cookie and the fortune said, “You are socially inept”. I thought it was the funniest thing I’d everr heard, but my buddy wasa actually really disturbed by it. Meh.

Great podcast! I’ve never even been a huge fan of standup, but having a lot of it (and peripheral discussion) in one convenient podcast is perfect. Keep up the great work!

As I said in my voicemail yesterday, I agree with your take on Michael Richards 102%. That’s a boring take on my part, but it’s the only viable stance. I saw the video; his racist rant was not a joke of any kind nor a simple scared response. I HOPE Richards was drunk, but even that doesn’t excuse anything (it merely explains). Jeez. I was just starting to like “Seinfeld” again.

Great podcast again. I just wanted to say that I really like the length of the shows being “as long as needed.” I listened to your shows and a few others at MSR and thought it was crazy when they cut the shows back. I emailed them at the time, but got no response. This is much better…

Keep up the good work and thanks for answering my question on the show.

    Waddup Bmo,
The length is up to you. Good comedy is just that…if you have to use dirty words to make it better than by all means let it rip but unnecessary cursing makes you look weak as a comedian!

    Hey B….

Another terrific show. I too agree with the Michael Richards thing…and to think he was my fav Seinfeld character! Uggh! Anyway I found a link for you to view it if you haven’t already: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8464171557517287206&q=Michael+richards+racial&hl=en

You know…a few of my peeps and I were talking about this and I stood by the thought that it IS the intention behind the words moreso than the words themselves. I’m tired of the “Black folks don’t respect themselves because they call each other nigger but let someone else say it and it’s all about protesting and climbing the mountain top screaming free at last free at last thank God almighty we’re free at last” rant. There’s a difference between saying “what’s up my nigga” and “you nigger”. I think the whole thing with Michael Richard’s tirade was NOT because he said nigger….it was the ‘hanging’ comment. There’s no explaining that. Saying nigger could have been excused as a simple epithet…..not “Hanging upside with a fucking fork up your ass”. WTF

Dang I didn’t mean to type that much…sheez. No wonder they say women are long winded.

    Bimo:
Glad to see you “back on the air”. Your podcasts were a couple of my favorites, and with Huff leaving the Circuit at the same time, I was in desperate straights. I’m the guy whose little league team got beat beat 75-5, and got jacked up on beaners before my first live poker effort. Good luck hooking up with a sponsor and keep up the great work.

You know, I actually like this netcast better than the All-In. The “feel” is so much more casual, and warm.

I am fine with the length of the show, as long as it isn’t one of these shitty 5 min. shows that just say “no show this week”.

    hmmm.

WTF happened to msr? Way to jump off the ship before it finally sunk BMO. I went to their site and it looks like it’s tits up. Anyone know?

  11. Brandon on November 28th, 2006 12:29 am

I finally watched the video and there is no way that it was not 100% racist. There was no “comedy” there or attempt to be “edgy” that was just pure hate being spewed. I think this is a career ender for Michael Richards, I sure won’t be able to watch him in anything else (unless his next role is a crazy hate filled racist neighbor, then I might be able to believe it). If I were Jerry Seinfeld I would not have said one word in his defense, it was completely inexcusable. The sad thing is that people seem able to get past it with Mel Gibson because it wasn’t caught on camera and posted on YouTube, but from all accounts it was just as bad.

Hey bmo, got a show topic for you (or maybe something you just want to mention). I was just screwing around on the internet and I found out that people think Denis Leary’s act was stolen from Bill Hicks. What do you think? I really haven’t seen much Bill Hicks, but I was rocking No Cure for Cancer in the early 90’s out of the parents Chrysler Dynasty.

PS Nice blurb on the UPC website.
    PPS WTF happened to MSR?

Darcy….we are “upgrading” the boards, so that’s why you got that godaddy.com page.

Sweet Alex, don’t know what I’d do without WAC.

Keep the shows long–talk til you drop. About the news no smoking law, from what I read, not only is smoking allowed in casinos, but at least two other locales: strip clubs and brothels. Could lead to some interesting situations: “honey, I can’t smoke in this restaurant but I’ll just grab my after dinner smoke next door at the whorehouse, just a smoke, nothing else.”

Got something to say?
