Free” Does Not Mean “Free To Bitch”

Podcast LogoJay Black was generous enough to hang out on the message boards and answer some listener questions.  Now Brian is going to do an inferior job of answering the same questions to quell his insecurities.

Topics include how “edgy” means different things to different people, clubs vs. colleges, and why a free show is only good in theory.  White Presidents act like this, but Black Presidents act like this!

Wow – thanks for playing Peter Cook, B-Mo.

Interesting choice of clip – the Judge monologue was a then topical swipe at the court case about the bizarre story of British Liberal MP Jeremy Thorpe, who was being blackmailed by his secret gay male model lover . The male model threatened to out the married Thorpe to the tabloids, so Thorpe paid a hitman to assassinate the rentboy. The hitman’s gun jammed however, and he ended up shooting the male model’s dog dead instead. The judge in the ensuing court case was so absurdly baised towards getting Thorpe off without charge, it inspired Cook to write the sketch.

Liberals! Ha! I used to work for the buggers…..not sure whether that’s as bad as one of our current MPs paying a rent boy to shit on his chest…….

Two others jokes we’re going to hear done to death by black comics:

    1) You know the Obama Monument’s gonna look just like the Washington Monument– ‘xcept twice as big!

    2) (Any variation of) Now that we got a black president, shit’s going down!! I guess this counts as a “black presidents act all like this, but white presidents act all like this…” joke.

    Oh my God, Nick!

That must be the first time in years in British politics that A Lib Dem MP has actually been present at a motion being successfully passed!

Ricardo……thats an amazing joke. I imagine you know who I’m talking about? It came out he was paying rent boys but the deeper story was hinted at in the papers

Cheers Nick – but I’m not sure who you’re talking about. The only Lib Dem I can name off the top of me head is Lembert Opik – and thats only because he shagged one of the Cheeky Girls.

Is it that guy Simon Hughes who was outed as being gay a while back , maybe?

I wasn’t sure if motion also meant bowel movement in the US, so glad the poo reference floated across the pond, so to speak.

(God I love BTB . How many American other sites can you discuss puns about obscure British politicians being shat on by male prostitutes?)

Naa, its Mark Oaten……he had to suspend his Leadership election in 2006 cause the rent boy sold his story to the papers. I’ve actually met the bloke in Parliament and shook his hand!

    IT BURNS!!!!!

Haha! No, my other post didn’t come up.

No it’s Mark Oaten – he had to suspend his leadership campaign in 2006 due to rent boy revelations….and the fucking rest. I’ve met him too in parliament…and shook his hand. IT BURNS!

Oh god, I knew that National would win, but now they don’t even need a minor party to form a coalition with. And then my Prime Minister resigned, leaving the leadership of Labour.

Poor New Zealand, poor unlovable New Zealand.

What do you guys think about these news reports that are basically saying that the Daily show wont be as good now that there’s a democrat in office? I’m a huge daily show fan and personally think they’ll be fine. but what do you think?

  20. mike not really
    November 11, 2008 | 5:20 pm

they’ll be okay. The onion is doing fine, the daily show will be too.

  21. Joel Fry
    November 11, 2008 | 5:23 pm

The Daily Show makes fun of everybody, they haven’t pulled too many punches on Democrats. Also, their bread-and-butter is mocking the way pundits and experts report the news. and that will never change.

“their bread-and-butter is mocking the way pundits and experts report the news. and that will never change.”

Indeed. That will be more than enough to lean on until Jon Stewart can find something Obama does that is equivalent to the hunched-over Bush laugh.

will anything be the comedic equivalent to the hunched-over Bush laugh?

Not likely, unless you count him dancing on the Ellen show, which isn’t likely to happen again.

I think instead of sending the vp to the white house, we should send their snl look-a-like instead.

I’m actually working on a joke now about how some people said they could’nt vote for a black man into the office of the president. The joke’s basically that Obama is half black and half white, and therefore he’s like a half way house to a fully black president. it’s still a work in progress but i think i mat have missed my window for this particular piece of material.

Good show, Brian, but I think you missed the better joke in the intro. “Half-white” would have been the better punchline.
