Disaster Relief

December 20, 2006 · Print This Article

It’s an extra jolly holiday edition of Behind The Bricks today and it looks like Brian’s hit the egg nog a little early.

He begins with a look the comedy news of the past week including comedy in the name of Jesus, and Larry the Cable Guy making news in somewhere other than Arkansas.

Then Brian invites Mike, the Simon Cowell of stand up in to review 2 big comedy events, including Comic Relief ‘06.  Hmm, a 3 hour comedy show and almost none of it was funny.  What are the odds?

He wraps it up with a creepy rant of the week that almost ends in a holiday cornholing, and finally he spotlights another listener requested comic who trully performs in the name of God.  Or is it takes God’s name in vane?

I think you are right BMO-Larry the cable guy cannot go back to some other act. He has to be Larry-he even had a movie out a while back-I think he should stick with his act, and try and come up with some new bits.

I didnt see comic relief ‘06~but i remember in the 80’s that shit was huge-it was a reason why people got HBO.

I think that you guys are right, if they want people to watch the special, it needs to be on regular HBO, and some new hosts and talent would freshen the event up a little. Its cool to keep tradition and all that, but you have to move on with the times-kids just a bit younger than me wont know who billy, woopie, and the other folks were-so there is no star power in the old folks.

Liked the podcast-Happy Holidays to everyone.

……….I like the idea of bringing some comics on that are “not famous.”
I would like to hear about how they are trying to come up in the comedy world. I don’t get the chance to watch or hear much comedy-so it would be cool to have them do a bit, maybe play it at the end of the show, and we could comment on it on the boards, and you can talk about it on the next show.

I saw the promo for that christian comedy special with “ray’s wife” What is up with all the tv people going back to comedy after a big role on a sitcom. I am not sure why more people don’t take the “Frasier” route-I wasn’t a big fan of that show, but if my memory serves me-he (kelsey grahmer) was “Frasier” on Cheers (is that right?) George and kramer tried sitcoms after seinfeld but I think they were “different people.” I think you could have had a good show by taking the character and making a new show. I think the friends dude “Joey” tried that, but it didn’t work, but it something that would work better than starting a new show, or going to standup when everyone already identifys you with your role on TV.

Anyway, Im out-enjoy the holidays folks

Here’s a link for anyone who doesn’t understand exactly how far the Larry The Cable Guy is from Dan Whitney’s real life. I can’t believe that character is actually an improvement.

Great show. Funny that Mike did the top 3 “white guy” voices. Wish I had seen the special.

That Cable Guy thing is pretty disturbing.

I love the white guy voices. Mike Birbiglia actually has a bit where he does a voice that’s a WHITE guy doing a black guy doing a white guy voice. AWESOME.

Cody nice work on the requests by the way. I gotta say that David Cross and Brian Regan are 2 of my rock solid favorites as well. I’ve seen them both multiple times and while polar opposites they are both phenomenal.

I’ve only seen David Cross on HBO, but I’ve seen Regan twice live. Regan is the only comic that has sent me out of the building holding my sides in pain.

But David Cross is the kind of comedian where I’ll just start laughing out loud in a meeting at work when a line pops in my head. That guy just kills me….

Your rant about the restroom after one Albuquerque show did not do the situation justice. No, not the one where you pissed all over the place. The one when you got the free back rub while pissing. You take a pee in a men’s room you don’t stand at the urinal next to anyone, if you do, you don’t talk to the guy, you don’t look at the guy and you certainly don’t touch him. Personally I think you should have done to him what Bluto did to Flounder and Pinto at the beginning of Animal House. Keep up the good work for 2007.

Got something to say?
